Stansted airport

London Stansted airport was opened in 1943 as RAF Stansted Mountfitchet by the royal air force and US army air forces, in 1949 the airport was used by several UK charter airlines the runway was extended in 1952 to accommodate possible transfer to NATO use,

1966 Stansted was placed under BAA control as used by holiday charter operators to escape higher costs of London Heathrow and Gatwick airports. 2010 saw the return of major transatlantic routes and long haul flights.
